So, I have found that I thoroughly enjoy working the cash register and gift shop the most. I know it’s probably the least hands-on job in terms of working with the animals, but I love it. I get to interact with visitors all day and get to know them as well. Unfortunately for me, it doesn’t eat up any time and I get bored. It could be 11:30 and I ring a couple of families up for the gift shop. I could spend an hour doing that. Then, I look at my watch and it has only been ten minutes. Time really tends to move slowly when I work that job. I like it so much though, so I’m conflicted. Also, I am literally the only volunteer who has been trained to work the cash register. So the job always tends to fall on me. I really like working with this guy named Valentine. Everyone calls him Val for short. He’s older and has been working with Sandoway for about a decade. He was originally a volunteer like me. He said he made a job out of it because he was always the oldest volunteer because most of them are in high school. Anyways, he is a really cool guy and is super down to Earth. He doesn’t hesitate to let me know if I’m doing something wrong. I admire that about him. Today, I learned how to run a course on shark-tagging. I don’t use real sharks or very expensive equipment. It is just to show what it would be like to tag sharks out in the field. I have to make a “script.” Just something to reference when teaching the kids. Stuff like jokes, facts, and instructions are all on this script. It should be a good time! I’ve continued to work outside a ton. Which is good I guess. It’s good to break a sweat now and then. It really sucks that I won’t get a scuba diving day in. I work every day except Monday. I can’t dive this upcoming Monday. I also can’t the following because that’s the 20th. I fly back up the 21st. You are not supposed to fly after diving in the previous 24 hours. So I guess it won’t happen. It’s all good though! I got accepted into Eckerd College! I can do plenty of that there! I’m super excited to keep working on senior project and then experience college life!
